Our Engagement Photos

It’s no secret that 2020 has taken a toll on all of us. And yet somehow… there have definitely been little glimmers of hope in 2020. For us, it’s been our engagement! Plus, all of this time we’ve been able to spend together that we wouldn’t have otherwise been able to in a “normal” year.

We’re both navigating working from home in the same one bedroom apartment. Our living room has become our work space, our chill space, our dining space… lol in other words, it’s where we spend all of our time when we’re not sleeping! 😂 But even when under stressful conditions and one of the worst years we’ve navigated, we’re happiest when we’re with each other… and we’re navigating it together so I’m thankful.

It’s definitely been a bittersweet time – we’re so excited about being engaged and this next step in our lives. On the other hand, we haven’t been able to have an engagement party or celebrate our engagement with friends. I joke that our engagement party will be our wedding (if we’re lucky lol!).

And yet, despite all of the hardship of this year, in a way, 2020 has made me yearn for the simplest of things – things like hanging out with my grandparents and sharing stories from years’ past (I miss mine so much!), going out for a glass of wine with a friend in a tiny and cozy wine bar, chatting with a stranger while out running errands and seeing them smile, and even yearning for suburb life with a backyard and a more simple life that the city doesn’t quite provide. I’m longing for those simple things – and I’ve had glimmers of them here and there. I’m sure so many of you can relate.

When starting to plan our wedding, our photographer was one of the first things we wanted to lock down. It’s one of the things (if not the #1 thing) we care about the most about our wedding – the captures from what will likely be the most special day of our lives.

Booking our wedding photographer, Jaimee Morse, was an easy decision – she captures things as they are… yet even more beautifully. If you’ve seen her work then you know! It was important to us to have what we see as a classic photographer – we want the venue, ourselves, and our friends captured as they are – no trendy filters/presets… just photographs that we’ll look back on in 40 years and be just as happy, if not happier about.

This has been a long winded post to explain why we decided to get engagement photos taken. Geoff didn’t want to. I did. 😂 He came around (the girl got her way, what’s new lol 🙌🏻) and we are both so happy we decided to get engagement photos taken. With how insane (to put it lightly lol!) 2020 has been, I know these engagement photos will mean even more to us 40 or 50 years from now. From the captures, you can’t tell that there’s a global pandemic happening… our gentle smiles seem as though everything is normal. And yet the crazy stories we’ll have behind these photos…

One of my favorite things to do as a kid was to go through the many photo albums my grandparents have at their home. I know I just have to get these printed out in a book because I want our future kids, grandkids, great-grandkids to be able to look at these. One day when they ask about them, I’m sure so many mixed feelings will immediately resurface. There’s no forgetting 2020, that’s for sure. Cheers, friends! 🍾 We’re all out here just trying to survive 2020. Please give yourself grace this year. ❤️
