Bridesmaid Proposal Boxes: How I Asked My Bridesmaids

Bridesmaid Proposal Boxes: How I Asked My Bridesmaids

With everything going on in 2020, personal life, work life, etc…. truth be told, I’ve felt unmotivated about a lot of aspects of wedding planning. But, one piece I’ve been really excited about this entire time is asking my bridesmaids! 🎉 I have 5 bridesmaids who I love dearly. My maid of honor is a best friend since 6th grade. Another bridesmaid is a friend I met way back at college orientation and we’ve been the best of friends ever since. Each of these girls are my lifeline and are so special to me so I wanted to ask them in a special and unique way.

Bridesmaid Proposal Boxes: How I Asked My Bridesmaids

Bridesmaid proposal boxes have been popular for a while now and are a cute way to ask your bridesmaids and get them excited about the festivities to come. I searched Pinterest and Etsy for weeks for inspiration. These days, there are sites you can use where companies that can make these boxes for you, curate the items that are inside, and mail them out on your behalf. I wanted to put mine together myself, so I thought I would show you guys how I made my bridesmaid proposal boxes and how I asked my bridesmaids!

I opted to put together my own bridesmaid proposal boxes so I could make them completely customized and I felt like the the handmade aspect made them feel even more special. I wanted to personally hand these to my bridesmaids over cocktails or brunch, but with COVID spiking just around Thanksgiving (when I was planning to send these out), it just seemed too risky to hand deliver them all.

Instead, I opted to mail out my bridesmaid proposal boxes to each person. I have to say, I’m pretty happy with how these turned out. I even received a few messages on Instagram asking where I got them. I put these together completely myself! Here’s what I used to put together the bridesmaid proposal boxes and what’s inside!

The Boxes

I found these boxes on Etsy. They’re just a simple white box that make for the perfect clean slate for whatever you’re planning to add inside and are great for bridesmaid proposal boxes! They come flat and are very easy to fold together. Simply tape the bottom of the box after folding it together so that everything stays secure and doesn’t fall through the bottom (they’d probably be fine, but I added a little Scotch tape to be safe).

One note if you’re planning to ship like I did – this type of box is not sturdy enough to be the box that is mailed. You should put this box inside a traditional cardboard box/Amazon box, etc. so that it doesn’t get crushed. Also, these boxes shipped super quickly from the Etsy seller. Highly recommend!

Crinkled Paper

I’ve received quite a few amazing PR packages from brands and agencies over the years and one thing many of them have in common is the crinkled paper. It’s an easy touch that makes everything look put together and dare I say, a little fancy! You could also use tissue paper, however, I find that you have to use a lot of tissue paper to keep everything in place.

I ordered two bags of this crinkled paper and ended up using 1 3/4 bags for 5 bridesmaid boxes. Was super happy with this paper. I opted for the white that had touches of sparkles in it. Cute and it shipped quickly.

Personalized Sugar Cookies

I researched personalized cookies for my bridesmaid proposal boxes on Etsy for so many hours. I can be a bit of a perfectionist, so I wanted the perfect cookies. One day I was scrolling Instagram and Jessica Lambi, a local blogger I follow, had posted these insane cookies that she had at her bachelorette party. I immediately started looking into the cookie seller, Sugar Momma’s Cookies.

After Jessica posted these, I knew I had to go with Sugar Momma’s Cookies – not only because they’re so beautiful, but they’re also local and with the times we’re in, I felt it was important to support a local business. These are custom and handmade. The designs that she’s come up with are so impressive. I came up with the design for my cookies that were inspired by another design that Lisa of Sugar Momma’s Cookies had posted. Here are mine! I was so happy with how they turned out. A must!

Alaina Marie Keychains

Since our wedding ceremony and reception will be overlooking Penobscot Bay in coastal Maine, I wanted to incorporate a coastal-inspired item in the box. I’ve been a fan of Alaina Marie’s products for years. I have numerous clutches and a tote bag and I love them all (see more posts here and here)! Her products are inspired by a lobsterman’s bait bag and they’re all machine washable. Alaina Marie products are very popular among those in Southern Maine and New England.

Sugarfina Champagne Bears

Of course I had to incorporate something sweet! I added these Sugarfina Champagne Bears to tie into the somewhat of a champagne theme I had going. They complemented the Veuve Clicquot cookies perfectly! Insider tip: Sugarfina has more of a selection on their website, but in my experience, their shipping can take a while. I opted to purchase on Bloomingdale’s instead since they have faster shipping.

The Cards

I knew I had to add a humorous touch to these bridesmaid boxes so these cards were a must. If you’ve seen Bridesmaids then enough said… these were a huge hit with my bridesmaids!
